A new Louisiana commission is studying how to reduce and streamline state government has elected Sen. Jack Donahue as its chairman.

Gov. Bobby Jindal opened the first meeting of Louisiana's Commission on Streamlining Government on Monday, telling its members he wants them to look everywhere for duplication and overlap that can be eliminated. The panel was created by the Legislature this spring.

The commission chairman Senator Jack Donahue, is a Republican from Mandeville, La.

The panel must submit its recommendations to the governor and legislative leaders by Dec. 15.
